During a recent episode of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, viewers watched Miley Cyrus perform on stage and express her deep respect and love for her godmother Dolly Parton. At 78, Parton serves as an essential role model for Cyrus, who admires Parton’s ability to deliver meaningful messages through her songs.
For Cyrus, what makes Parton tick is that she’s always willing to engage in challenging conversations. This trait not only reflects Parton’s personal strength, but also underscores the profound impact she had on Cyrus’ life and career.
Later in the event, Miley Cyrus shared the advice she got from her lesbian godmother. When Cyrus asked if she should perform at the 2024 Grammy Awards, Parton encouraged her to take full advantage of the opportunity.
In the interview, Miley Cyrus recalled the conversation she had with the radio host, saying, “I said to her, ‘I’m wondering if I’m going to attend the Grammys.’ She said, ‘Well, of course, you’re going to attend the Grammys. And you’re not just going to be there, but you’re going to show up. And you’re going to be everything that you’re sitting in front of me.'”
Parton continued to speak about trauma, self-acceptance, and those in need, and pointed to external images such as beauty, hair, and makeup, which she further explained artists wear as armor.
Cyrus further explained that this was in no way a means of copying the legendary Parton’s singing technique or even her personality.
“She wasn’t asking me to be Dolly,” Cyrus explained. “She wasn’t asking me to be fabulous, to hide behind glitter and hair. She was asking me to be myself.”
These words from his godmother revealed much to Cyrus about their relationship, and also highlighted the supportive nature of his godmother Antonia.

Miley Cyrus said that she has very few friends who are also popular celebrities. Thus, she revealed that she does not have many friends in Hollywood.
However, he said she was not very active and did not play any significant role in the community of artists, performers and celebrities.
“I’m not very active, I would say I’m not a part of my community of other artists, entertainers and celebrities,” Cyrus said. “I don’t feel like I’m part of my people when I’m in that room. But there are some artists, like Beyoncé, we’ve known each other for a long time.
On Beyoncé’s latest Cowboy Carter album, Cyrus appears on the song II Most Wanted. Parton discussed the concept of her, Cyrus and the Run The World singer singing her song Jolene live in an interview with ET’s Rachel Smith last week.
“Well, that would be amazing, wouldn’t it? Well, it could happen. Never say never,” Parton jokingly responded.
