Michelle Yeoh to receive Honorary Golden Bear at Berlinale Palast 2026
Actress Michelle Yeoh will receive an Honorary Golden Bear at the 2026 Berlinale for her outstanding film career. The honor highlights his impact on global cinema and is a historic milestone for Asian artists.

The Berlin International Film Festival will award the 2026 Honorary Golden Bear to Academy Award-winning actor Michelle Yeoh for her outstanding achievements in film and cinema. The award will be presented at the inaugural ceremony at the Berlinale Palast on February 12, 2026.
Yeoh is considered a highly influential and versatile actress, primarily due to her four-decade career that has left a lasting impact on international cinema across multiple continents. He has also served as a member of the Berlin International Jury in 1999. The actor is known for his roles in films like ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ (2000), ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ (2022) and others.
Reflecting on his association with the festival, Yeoh shared: “Berlin has always held a special place in my heart. It was one of the first festivals to accept my work with such warmth and generosity. To come back, after so many years, in recognition of my journey in cinema, feels really meaningful.”
Festival Director Tricia Tuttle said, “Michelle Yeoh is a visionary artist and performer whose work transcends geographical, linguistic or cinematic boundaries. Her commanding presence, fearless artistic choices and unmistakable style have left a lasting impact on generations of filmmakers and fans in Berlin and around the world.”
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Yeoh rose to prominence in films such as Yes, Madam (1985), Royal Warriors (1986), Police Story III (1992), and Wing Chun (1994). These roles established her as one of the leading female icons of Asian action and martial arts cinema.
The actor achieved international success in 1997 playing Chinese secret agent Wai Lin in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (1997). For ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’, Michelle Yeoh was awarded the Academy Award for Best Female Actor in 2023, becoming the first actress of Asian descent to win in the category. This historic moment marked an important milestone for the representation of Asian artists in global cinema.
Yeoh is currently bringing her acclaimed presence in the role of Madame Morrible in ‘Wicked: For Good’ (2025) directed by Jon M Chu. The much-awaited musical film is all set to premiere in theaters in a few days.
Earlier this year, she returned to Chinese cinema with ‘Miss Rubik’s Cube’ (working title, directed by Bai Xue and executive produced by Wen Muye). Later in 2026, Yeoh will lead a new chapter in the television series ‘Blade Runner 2099’ (executive produced by Ridley Scott for Amazon Prime Video). She will also be seen in the upcoming action thriller ‘The Surgeon’ (directed by Roshan Sethi).
With the Honorary Golden Bear, the Berlinale pays tribute to individuals who have made lasting contributions to the art of film. Previous recipients include Helen Mirren, Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg and Tilda Swinton.
