Meta is once again in the headlines, and once again it is facing a court fight that can reopen the future of not only Meta but other technical giants in the industry. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Monday took a stand in a historic antitrust trial, where the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) accused the meta to receive Instagram and WhatsApp by obtaining a stiffling competition. The result of the case may potentially forced the meta to close its two largest platforms and how the technical merger is handled, determining a powerful new standard for this. Here you need to know about the case – in five major points.

-Mark Zuckerberg faced an antitrust trial that can divide the meta

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has taken a stand in a major antitrust trial that may force the $ 1.4 trillion company to break. The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has accused Mata of incorrectly dominating social media space by purchasing rivals Instagram and WhatsApp. The result of this case can set a new example for how the future technical merger is seen.

-FTC says

FTC claims that Meta bought Instagram and WhatsApp to avoid competing with them. It says that the company now controls the “personal social networking” market – platforms focused on connecting friends and family with family – and users do not have meaningful options. Meta, however, argues that it competes with Tikok, YouTube, Snapchat and even Apple’s images.

-Zuckerberg defends deals, saying they helped improve the products

At the stand, Zuckerberg defended the acquisition, saying that their aim was to improve innovation and user experience, not to eliminate rivals. He also admitted that Facebook’s attention has moved more towards content and interest-based feed, but insisted that connecting with friends and family is central for the META mission.

-Bold emails raise questions about the real objectives of meta

One of the major pieces of evidence is Zuckerberg’s 2012 email that suggests that buying Instagram will “help to neutralize a contestant.” Another email referred to concerns about the Facebook camera behind the Instagram. While Zuckerberg admitted that these were real messages, he said he was excluded from reference and did not reflect the long -term goals of Meta.

-Now FTC wins, Meta can lose Instagram and WhatsApp

If the court may be forced to sell Instagram and WhatsApp, according to the rules in favor of FTC, a step that can seriously affect its advertising business. Instagram alone is expected to be responsible for more than half of the Meta’s US advertising revenue in 2025. The trial may allegedly continue in the next eight weeks, with the former Meta Coo Shelryl Sandberg and Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom expected more testimonial from major figures.
