Meta has hired two more senior Apple researchers for its newly formed Superintendent Labs Division, who continue the aggressive recruitment of top artificial intelligence talent. According to a report by BloombergMark Lee has already joined the meta, while Tom Gunter is expected to come on the board soon. Both were part of Apple’s AI team and worked closely with Ruming Pang, former head of Apple’s Foundation Model Group, who recently left the company for a multi-million dollar compensation package from Mata.
This has been made from APPLE’s AI division in recent weeks of at least three major rented meta. Pang, who was responsible for the major development of advanced AI models, was involved in the Meta earlier this month, which included the back of Apple’s plans for a smarter Siri. His departure is considered a major setback for apple’s efforts in catching with rivals such as Google and Openai.
Meta has refused to comment on the rent, while Apple has not yet released a response.
These tricks are part of the large vision of Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, which through a new unit create Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), called Superintendent Labs. Zuckerberg recently announced that Meta would spend hundreds of billions of dollars to support the push over the next few years, including the creation of large -scale data centers.
To lead the AI charge, Meta brought to Alexandra Wang, the founder of Scale AI, after investing in its company as the chief AI officer in the evaluation of $ 29 billion in his company. In addition to pre-Appal researchers, Meta has also hired the major brains of OpenAI, anthropropic and Google. This includes Yuanzi Lee, who worked on the GPT model and Anton Bakhtin, who contributed to the cloud model of Anthropic.
Not everyone in the tech industry is pleased with the recruitment race of meta. The head of Openai’s research, Mark Chen compared it to “breaking and stealing something in our house”. Openai CEO Sam Altman also accused Meta of signing $ 100 million to his employees for bonuses. However, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth pushed back, saying that such high pay deals were exaggerated and applied only to top leadership roles.
Meanwhile, Apple is working quickly to rebuild its AI team. Pang’s deputy, Tom Gunter, has also moved, and the team will now be led by Jhifeng Chen, including the responsibilities shared among other managers.
Meta Superintending Labs now includes more than a dozen top researchers of the world’s leading AI labs, indicating how fierce the race has become for the creation of the next generation of the AI system.
