Chinmai Shripada is back in the headlines. Playback singer recently impressed the audience with his performance at the thugs Life Pre-Rivalies event in Chennai. He sang his own version of Muttha Majai and immediately won his heart. However, her return discussed online and many people wondered why she was missing from Tamil cinema for so long. Who is Chinmai?
Chinmai moved to prominence on giving her voice to actress Sameera Reddy in the 2008 film Surya S/O Krishnan. He once again attracted attention with his dubbing to Jessie’s character in this Maya Chessway. While he is widely recognized for his work as a dubbing artist, his career is beyond voice work.
Born into a music interested family, she began training in classical music at a very young age. His mother, a trained musician, played an important role in shaping the foundation of Chinmai. With a rigorous practice of years, the singer was well prepared when he received his first playback opportunity from AR Rahman. He sang Oru Dhiwam Thanta Pav for Kannathil Muthl.
He has since sung in all four South Indian languages, Tulu and Hindi. Some of his most memorable Bollywood songs are Guru Se Tere Bina and Titley of Chennai Express. Got up in Chennai, studying Telugu at school and shared a strong relationship with language. Chinmai has a special hobby for ghazal and Sufi music.
Who did Chinmai marry?
Chinmai and Rahul Rabindran started their relationship as friends. The couple tied the knot on 5 May 2014. Years later, on 18 June 2022, he became the parents of Twins, a boy and a girl, named Driptah and Saravas. The singer shared the happy news on Instagram with pictures of children holding his parents on Instagram.

Why was Chinmai banned?
In November 2018, Chinmai was expelled from South Indian cine, television artists and dubbing artists union (Satakadau). After the 2018 film 96, he dubbed for only one Tamil film, Hero (2019). This also happened allegedly as its participation was revealed just before the release of the film.
Chinmai goes viral after the thug life event
Chinmai presented her own version of Muttha Majai at the Thug Life event. It was originally sung by DHEE for the film. The music for the film is composed by AR Rahman, which has songs written by Shiva Anant. The event saw the presence of prominent actors of the film including Kamal Haasan, Abhirami, Silambarson TR and Trisha Krishnan. His video has become viral since then, and due to high demand, the manufacturers also released a separate clip that featured rendering.
