Meet the Holy Davuluri, the new Windows head Microsoft’s big AI-in-charge return
In a major reorganization step, Microsoft has re -introduced its Windows engineering teams under the new promoted president of Windows and Devices. Davuluri is now in charge of running Microsoft’s AI-managed vision for Windows.

Microsoft is once again bringing its Windows House in order. The company announced this week that it was resumping its major Windows engineering teams under a single leadership structure. Teams come together after years of dividing between azure and equipment. The restructuring attempt came only a few weeks after being promoted as the chairman of Windows and equipment as the chairman of the devices. He is now at the center of Microsoft’s largest operating system overhaul in a decade.
According to an internal memorandum received by The Verge, Davuluri refuses a significant step to focus on projects. “This change unites the work of Windows Engineering under a single organization. Taking the teams working together on Windows clients and servers focus on conveying against our priorities.” This means that most of Windows covers areas such as core engineering, core OS, security, fundamentals and data intelligence, now it will report directly to it, as she watches to streamline development and create a more harmonious roadmap for Windows.
Interestingly, this is the first major Windows shake-up as Davuluri played the role of windows and surface major more than a year ago. Till now, Microsoft’s operating system engineering was divided, sitting under Azure with parts of the platform, while the client side was managed separately. Reorganization marks a return for an integrated Windows organization, which was not seen since the tenure of Terry Myson, head of former Windows, who left the company in 2018.
In particular, while some low-level infrastructure such as networking and virtue will continue to sit with azure core, Windows’s wholesale is now strongly in the control of Davuluri. Reorganization also directly connects directly into the ambition of Microsoft, which calls Davuluri as “agentic OS”, which is a platform deeply operated by artificial intelligence.
So, who is the man who is now leading the future of windows and giving shape?
Who is Pawan Davuluri?
Pawan Davuluri is not a stranger for the complications of Microsoft or Windows and its partner hardware. The company’s experienced for a long time, he spent more than two decades inside the Redmund, connecting with Microsoft in 2001. He started his career on the development of Windows Phone and Surface devices. Over the years, he has played several engineering and leadership roles in client operating systems, devices integration and hardware-software optimization.
Born in India, Davuluri studied engineering in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. He later moved to America for higher education and master Electrical Engineering at the University of Maryland. With his strong technical foundation and expertise in system engineering, Davuluri entered Microsoft as a credibility component in 2011, according to his LinkedIn Profile.
He then worked around Microsoft’s hardware and OS divisions, where he became a prominent player in designing the surface line-up. In fact, Davuluri also played an important role in overseeing engineering behind Surface Laptop and Surface Pro, two products helped Microsoft to install Microsoft as a reliable hardware brand.
In 2023, when Panos Pane, the then surface of Microsoft and Windows Head came out of the company, Davuluri stepped into the leadership to fill the leadership. He was initially assigned with the leading surface engineering. However, earlier this month, he was promoted as Windows and Chairman of the device. This step now puts him on top of the most important platform of Microsoft as it enters a new AI-powered era.
