The entertainment industry is a fickle world. Every actor wants to be remembered for his acting. While it takes a long way to get a memorable script, some people get really lucky and become one-hit wonders.
One such actress we are talking about is none other than Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane. She is known for her roles in Urdu television and made her acting debut with Khichdi Salsa. Five years later, she made her Bollywood debut with Sanam Teri Kasam, directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru. The film released in 2016 and starred Harshvardhan Rane alongside her.
Though the romantic drama did not receive favourable results at the box office at the time of its release, the soul-stirring music and heart-warming story have garnered a cult following over the years. The popularity of the film can be gauged from the fact that fans constantly keep pinging the lead stars asking about its sequel.
After the Indian government imposed a ban on Pakistani artistes in 2016, we didn’t see much of her in Bollywood. Now that the ban has been lifted, we can only hope that she makes an impressive comeback with her comeback.
Furthermore, Mawra is known for her work in Ek Tamanna Lahasil Si, Ahista Ahista, Sammi, Sabaat (2020) and other Pakistani projects.
In 2015, Mawra found herself embroiled in controversy after she supported Phantom, starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif. Her tweet on the film read, “#Phantom is against terrorism. A terrorist cannot belong to any country. A terrorist is a terrorist only.” She followed it up with three more tweets, one of which said that if Phantom is “anti-terrorism, then yes I am also anti-terrorism, no matter which country I belong to. I am all for humanity and love and that’s it.”
However, her tweets did not go down well with Pakistani actor Shahid Shan and he demanded an immediate ban on the actress for promoting an “anti-Pakistan film”. Mawra later wrote a long open letter in her defence, addressed to all her fans and followers.
To keep an eye
Talking about work, Mawra continues to work in the Pakistani industry. Her recently released show Jafa is getting a lot of love from fans. She is seen playing the role of a doctor in the show. Apart from this, she has more than 1 million followers on social media.
