Sachin Katti has resigned as Intel’s Chief Technology and AI Officer, just six months after joining the role. Katti is now joining OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPIT, where he will be responsible for designing and scaling the compute infrastructure that powers the next era of advanced artificial intelligence models. Kati’s decision to join OpenAI is one of the most high-profile moves in the AI ​​domain this year, coming at a time when semiconductor companies and AI labs are racing to gain leadership in the rapidly growing AI revolution.

Cutty’s exit from Intel comes at a time when the chip maker is in a phase of renewed urgency and restructuring, as the company works to regain ground in the AI ​​hardware race against competitors like Nvidia and AMD. Intel confirmed the change in leadership, thanking him for his contributions and announcing that CEO Lip-Boo Tan will now directly oversee the AI ​​and Advanced Technologies Group.

However, Katti’s journey to OpenAI began with her Indian roots. He is an alumnus of IIT Bombay, where he completed his undergraduate degree. He later earned a PhD and spent nearly 15 years at Stanford University as a professor and researcher specializing in computer networking, wireless communications, and AI-powered systems. During his academic tenure, Katti conducted highly cited research and co-founded several start-ups based on his work, cementing his reputation in the field of education, innovation and industry-level problem-solving.

In 2021, Katti joined Intel as Chief Technology Officer, where he worked for four years and eventually became Chief Technology and AI Officer before leaving the company to join OpenAI.
