In short

  • HMD Fuse has been billed as the world’s first phone to completely block nude content
  • The device is targeted for children, which prevents any risk for inappropriate materials
  • App comes with other features like ban and location tracking

HMD, Finnish firm that used to make Nokia equipment under license, has announced fuse smartphones. The company claims that this device is the world’s first smartphone that can directly block any naked material.

HMD is using an AI model, called a hormablock AI from a British cyber security firm Safetonate. The model will work locally on the handset. Fuse will impose restrictions on screen and camera. This will prevent children from filming or sending nude content. In addition, the phone will also not allow the user to see or save improper images, even during the livestream.

Fuse also provides other parents control on the device. Parents will get access to the use of children’s phones including screen time and app access. Parents will be able to determine the deadline for each app. The phone will also provide location tracking data.

HMD fuses default social apps and internet by default. HMD claims that the ban on fuse may decrease when the child grows. Initially, parents can install a basic phone with minimum functionality. Over time, some features can be enabled with controlled web access and messaging.

Why did HMD make a fuse?

HMD is contrary to most mainstream smartphone companies. In recent years, the company has focused on repairing its equipment and long -term life. Now, the finish firm has found a new place in the market – parents buy phones for young children.

According to the company, a global survey of 37,000 parents and children showed that more digital control was required on smartphones. In recent years, privacy concerns have increased on personal data. Parents have become more alert than reach their children’s internet, especially the social media app.

HMD Fuse is deployed as an ideal smartphone for parents who are looking for a banned device for children.

The fuse has a 6.56 -inch HD+ LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 600nits peak brightness. It is powered by Snapdragon 4 General 2 and has 5G connectivity. The smartphone comes in the same black color.

The HMD fuse is currently available in the UK only. Users can buy devices through Vodafone scheme of 33 (about Rs 3,878) a month with only 30 (about Rs 3,526). It is not clear whether HMD will launch the phone in India.

The company’s last smartphone to launch in India was HMD fusion in November 2024. It is a modular design tool, priced at Rs 17,999.
