Congress leader and former diplomat Mani Shankar Aiyar on Wednesday expressed disappointment and concern over Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election, calling him a “person of dubious character”.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Mr Aiyar said, “I am extremely saddened that a person with dubious character like Donald Trump should not have been elected President of the world’s most powerful democracy.”
Mr Trump is accused of falsifying business records in a hush money scandal involving adult film actor Stormy Daniels. The case focused on a payment made to Ms. Daniels days before the 2016 presidential election.
“The moral dimension was missing. It is very sad that such a powerful country would be led by a man who has been convicted as a criminal in 34 separate cases and who has made himself infamous by having relations with and paying off prostitutes. Have earned a name.” To hide his sins, I don’t think a person with such character is good for his country or the world,” Mr Iyer said.

Iyer is known for his outspoken and sometimes provocative opinions, which have sparked debate and discussion in Indian politics.
In the US presidential election, Republican candidate Trump won a decisive victory over his Democratic rival Kamala Harris.
He will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, his second term in office.
Before this, Trump was the President of America from 2016 to 2020. He had to face defeat in the election for the second consecutive term from the then Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
A few months before the US presidential elections, Biden withdrew from contesting for a second term, after which the Democratic Party announced Kamala Harris as its candidate.
This would be only the second instance of a president serving two consecutive terms in the White House, the first in more than 100 years. Grover Cleveland served as president consecutively in 1884 and 1892. Trump previously served as the US President from 2016 to 2020.
Iyer also expressed grief over the defeat of Kamala Harris. He said that if Kamala Harris had won, she would have been the first woman and first politician of India to become the President. This would have been a historic and positive step.
He said, “As far as Kamala Harris is concerned, she was given very little time. She came from behind. She was performing very well. But it seems that the very deep wrongs in American society are finally turning against her.” And she lost the race.” Iyer.
