A social media user has claimed that after he felt sick after a workout, artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, ChatGPT, helped save his life by diagnosing him with a serious, life-threatening disease. The anonymous user shared his story on Reddit, saying that he had done a light workout a few days ago, but started feeling extreme pain all over his body. Concerned about the sudden deterioration in health, OP consulted ChatGPT, who advised him to seek immediate medical treatment.
“I told ChatGPT about my symptoms and she advised me to go to the hospital immediately, as my symptoms were consistent with moderate to severe rhabdomyolysis,” the post reads.
Rhabdomyolysis is a serious medical condition where damaged muscle tissue begins to break down rapidly, which can lead to a number of complications such as kidney damage, metabolic acidosis, and electrolyte imbalance. If not treated, it can even lead to death.
Acting on the suggestion, the man went to the hospital and got tests, which confirmed rhabdomyolysis.
“They did lab work and it turned out I had severe rhabdomyolysis. I had to stay in the hospital for a week and have to constantly get IVs and be monitored.”
