Former actress Mamta Kulkarni started her career with Raj Kumar and Nana Patekar’s 1992 film ‘Tiranga’. Mamta has worked in films like Karan Arjun, Krantiveer, Waqt Hamara Hai, Sabse Bada Khiladi in the 1990s.
The actress, who has been away from the silver screen, was one of the accused in the 2016 drug smuggling case in which ephedrine worth Rs 2,000 crore was seized.
Bombay High Court quashes FIR against Mamta Kulkarni
In the latest development, Mamta Kulkarni’s case has finally been dismissed by the Bombay High Court. On Monday, the court said that it is quashing the FIR registered against Mamta citing lack of evidence.
Reportedly, a bench of Justices Bharati Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande dismissed the criminal case, saying there was no evidence against her. The court is yet to issue a detailed order, however, Mamta’s plea to quash the case will be accepted.
Mamata reportedly claimed before the court that she was “made a scapegoat in the drug scam”.
Mamta Kulkarni had approached the High Court in 2018
In 2018, Mamta Kulkarni had approached the High Court to quash the criminal proceedings against her. Mamta’s husband Vicky Goswami is believed to be the mastermind of the racket who manufactured and procured ephedrine.
According to Hindustan Times, his petition states, “Only on the ground that the petitioner has cordial relations with co-accused Mr Vicky Goswami, the petitioner cannot be charged as an accused.”

On April 12, 2016, the Anti-Narcotics Cell department of the Thane police stopped two cars and seized 2-3 kg of ephedrine, a controlled substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
According to reports, the substance seized from the two vehicles is worth around Rs 80 lakh. 10 people, including the drivers of the cars, were arrested after police found out that they had procured the controlled substance from a factory in Solapur district.
The Karan Arjun actress along with seven others were declared wanted. Police had said that she was involved in a meeting between one of the accused, his accomplice Vicky Goswami and others at a hotel in Kenya.
In 2017, Goswami was detained by the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
