Malayalam producer files enrollment in Burka after a legal battle with the film Chamber
Malayalam producer Sandra Thomas filed his nomination papers in a burqa amid a legal battle with the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA).

Malayalam filmmaker Sandra Thomas arrived at Kerala Film Producers Association Office in Kochi on Saturday, 26 July, dressed in a burqa, to file his nomination for the election of the Executive Committee for 14 August.
She is running for the post of President amidst her long rift with the current leadership of the association. Sandra explained that she entered the space dominated by men and chose to wear a burqa for safety. She said that she will contest as part of a panel involving women and producers to bring positive changes within the association.

He said, “I felt that it is a suitable cloth to wear here, after all the experiences made by me. This place is a monopoly for 10 to 15 men,” he told the media after filing the papers.
Amidst their quarrels with the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA), the manufacturer’s move has rely on conversation around gender, power and transparency in Malayalam cinema.
His rift with the association criticized the office-holder to keep quiet on the report of the HEMA Committee after writing to the Executive Committee, which highlighted the issues faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. He also accused the current leadership of misconduct.
The association sought an explanation from Thomas about his comment, but after his response became unsatisfactory, he issued a show-causal notice, eventually caused to remove him. In his complaints, Thomas accused senior officials of using derogatory language during a meeting on film distribution, indicating the police case.
Sandra, along with fellow producer Sheela Kurien, had earlier called for a change in the KFPA leadership, accusing them of running according to the interests of a few select people.
