Malayalam novelist and screenwriter MT Vasudevan Nair passes away at 91 after treatment for cardiac arrest

Malayalam novelist and screenwriter MT Vasudevan Nair died on December 25 at the age of 91. He was undergoing treatment in Kozhikode after cardiac arrest a few days ago. His wife Saraswati and daughter Ashwathi were with him in his last moments. According to Onmanorama, his last rites will be held today at 5 pm at Mavoor Road cremation ground.

Meanwhile, people can pay their last tribute to the novelist at his residence till 4 pm. Many notable personalities have come to express their condolences. Actor Mohanlal and writer MN Karaseri were among the first to arrive. Minister AK Saseendran and MP Shafi Parambil also came to honor him.

According to the report, the Kerala government has announced two days of mourning. Apart from this, as per his wish, there will be no public darshan of his mortal remains.

Soon after the news of the demise broke on the internet, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled his demise on his social media handle.

He wrote, “With the demise of MT Vasudevan Nair, we have lost a doyen of Malayalam literature, who took our language to global heights. A true cultural icon, he captured the soul of Kerala through his timeless works. Took.”

He said, “His steadfast commitment to secularism and humanity has left a legacy that will inspire generations. Heartfelt condolences to his family and cultural community.”

MT Vasudevan Nair made significant contributions to cinema and literature. He directed seven films and wrote the screenplay of about 54 films. For his excellent work, he received the National Film Award for Best Screenplay four times.

In 1995, he received the Jnanpith Award for his significant influence on Malayalam literature. Later, in 2005, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to the arts.
