Malayalam legend Srinivasan dies at 69 after prolonged illness
Veteran actor Sreenivasan passed away at the age of 69, leaving a significant legacy in the Malayalam film industry. His work as an actor, writer and filmmaker shaped the direction of Malayalam cinema for nearly five decades.

Veteran Malayalam actor, screenwriter, director and producer Sreenivasan died on Saturday, December 20, at a hospital in Tripunithura, Ernakulam. His health was not well for a long time. Srinivasan was 69 years old. Known for his extensive contributions to Malayalam cinema, Sreenivasan’s influence has been deeply felt across the industry and among audiences across generations.
Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran expressed grief over the loss on his Instagram story. He wrote, “Farewell to one of the greatest writer/director/actor of all time. Thanks for the laughs and thoughts! Rest in peace.”

Born on 6 April 1956 in Pattiyam near Thalassery, Kerala, Srinivasan grew up in a supportive family environment. He had his early education in Kadirur, followed by a bachelor’s degree in Economics from PRNSS College, Mattanur. He later pursued formal training at the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, which played an important role in shaping his creative journey in the film industry. From a young age, Srinivasan showed a keen interest in storytelling and performance, which later became the foundation of his illustrious career.
Spanning nearly five decades, Sreenivasan acted in more than 225 films. He was widely acclaimed for his sharp social satire and lively characters on screen. His performances consistently resonated with audiences, earning him a permanent place in the hearts of Malayalam cinema audiences.
He also made his mark as a screenwriter, including Odaruthammav Aalariyam, Sandesam, nadodikkattuAnd Najan PrakashanHis scripts were known for their intelligence and insight on contemporary social issues, often mixing humor with critical commentary on society, Through his writing, he addressed subjects such as bureaucracy, unemployment and the complexities of middle-class life, making his films both entertaining and thought-provoking,
