These are 5 tips to make Malai Kofta healthy

1. Give up regular cottage cheese

While we know that paneer is the main ingredient in malai kofta, it can be high in fat, making it an unhealthy option. However, you can easily replace it with alternatives like tofu or make low-fat paneer with toned milk at home. These options are rich in protein but low in calories and fat, making them great options to include in your recipe. Tofu, in particular, absorbs the flavours of the spices and ensures that your koftas remain soft, tasty and satisfying.

2. Add vegetables

Yes, we know that malai kofta does not contain vegetables, but since you are making a healthier version of it, make friends with veggies. Make your regular kofta healthy by adding grated carrots, zucchini and spinach to it, which not only enhances the taste and texture of the koftas, but also loads them with vitamins and fibre. This will make your koftas even more nutritious and balanced, making your eating experience guilt-free!

3. Air fry the koftas

Usually, koftas are fried which adds unnecessary calories and fat. Instead, try air frying to get the same crispiness without the hassle of cooking. Preheat your air fryer to 180 degrees Celsius and spread the kofta balls evenly on it. Apply some oil on them and air fry for 20 minutes. This will give you golden and crispy koftas without the need for extra oil.

4. Make a light gravy

Malai Kofta is known for its rich and creamy gravy. However, this richness comes from heavy cream and milk which can be extremely unhealthy and calorie-rich in combination. For a lighter but equally delicious option, use yogurt or tomato-based gravy. Greek yogurt especially adds a rich texture to the gravy while tomatoes add a tangy flavor to it. If you want to make it creamier, add some cashew paste to the gravy. This can make your gravy creamy without adding excessive dairy fat.

5. Keep your diet balanced

A balanced diet is the key to healthy eating. Start by serving yourself a small portion of koftas and serve them with stir-fried vegetables or a crunchy salad. This will not only add nutrients to your overall meal but will also ensure that you are not overeating.
