Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt spoke in an interview about the criticism his son-in-law and actor Ranbir Kapoor’s film ‘Animal’ has received. Sandeep Wagha Reddy’s film turned out to be a big hit at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews.

in a conversation Hindustan TimesAddressing the criticism that ‘Animal’ has received, Mahesh said an artist has no choice but to deal with the harsh realities of the times. The film sparked a heated debate after its release, with critics and audiences divided over its portrayal of masculinity and violence, “That’s also part of entertainment. It’s a bloody sport. You go out in the field and some people celebrate your fall and some people celebrate your victory. So that’s a part of it,” Mahesh said.

He further added, “You have chosen that life. That’s why there are very few artists in the world and most people are spectators. The world ultimately belongs to creators and not to people who are just sitting and throwing bricks at a good artist. It takes a different kind of courage to be an artist.”

He concluded, “These are occupational hazards. You can’t do both things at once. You stand in the sun, you get sunburn.”

Although the filmmaker stepped away from the director’s chair after directing ‘Sadak 2’, he is actively involved in the entertainment industry. Recently, he returned as the writer of the thriller-horror ‘Bloody Ishq’, starring Vardhan Puri and Avika Gor in the lead roles. He also made creative contributions to the social drama ‘Ab Dilli Door Nahin’, which is inspired by the true story of a rickshaw driver’s son who becomes an IAS officer.
