Maharashtra has received its first India-made surgical robot installed at the Noble Hospitals and Research Centre, Pune. SSI Mantra Surgical Robot, which recently received approval from India’s regulatory body, Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), is a 3D robotic system to perform complex surgeries.

The robotic system, inaugurated by Marathi actor Prasad Oak, is an advanced system featuring five lean robotic arms, an immersive 3D HD headset that provides unique optics for surgeons, and a vision cart that provides 3D 4K vision for the entire surgical team. Provides imaging, which ensures better. Precision and control.

Dr Ashish Pokharkar, oncosurgeon, Noble Hospitals and Research Centre, said the robotic system will be used in many life-saving procedures including general surgery, cardio-thoracic, urology, gynecology and many complex surgical procedures.

The hospital recently performed its first surgery using the system. The surgery involved robotic right extended hemicolectomy of a patient suffering from colon carcinoma.

Talking about how advanced this robotic surgery is in enhancing patient outcomes, Dr HK Sale, Executive Director, Noble Hospitals, said, “Recovery is very fast due to the minimally invasive technology, which utilizes tiny, finger-sized Uses incisions and even smaller instruments with better instruments.” Accuracy and flexibility compared to traditional laparoscopic or open surgery. For patients, this means shorter hospital stays, less discomfort and a quicker return to their normal routine.”

What is robotic surgery?

Robotic surgery is when a doctor performs an operation using robotic arms. The doctor sits in a chair and controls the robotic arms through a console, while a screen in front is a 32-inch monitor and provides a 3D view of the patient’s surgical field. It also has a safety camera, which detects the presence of the doctor.

India’s first surgical robot called SSI Mantra was created by Dr. Sudhir Srivastava in 2017. The Indian surgical robot is a modular design with more than 5 detachable arms, which can also assist in heart surgery.

The first Indian-made surgical robotic system was installed at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute in New Delhi and later in Hyderabad and Raipur.

The indigenous surgical robotic technology has become the first company in India to receive Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) regulatory approval for telesurgery and teleproctoring.

“Telesurgery and teleproctoring have been a dream for more than four decades, and today, it has finally come to life. With the technology and bandwidth now available, we can truly decentralize and democratize surgical expertise, maximizing patients and can reach surgeons in remote parts of India and the world,” said Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman and CEO of SS Innovations.

SSI Mantra Surgical Robot was also launched at B&B Hospital in Gwarko, Lalitpur, Nepal in July this year.
