After getting a clean chit from the Gujarat High Court, Junaid Khan’s debut film Maharaj was finally released on June 21. The film was well received by the audience. Apart from Junaid and Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey played an important role in the film.

In a new interview, Shalini, who plays an innocent woman called Kishori, the fiancée of Junaid’s Karsandas Mulji, opened up about shooting the horrific stage service scene in the film and how it affected her.

Shalini Pandey says, ‘I have finished filming and I have told my team that I don’t want to stay in a closed room.’

Recently, while talking to Bollywood Hungama, Shalini Pandey revealed that shooting the charan seva scene for Jaideep Ahlawat’s character Maharaj impressed her.

She said that she is sensitive to things happening around her, so she stays away from reading the news or scrolling through social media. “When I actually did the scene with Maharaj, I didn’t realise how it affected me. I finished filming, and I told my team that I don’t want to be in a closed room. I need time. I need some fresh air. I am getting a little restless. Jaideep obviously understood,” said Shalini.

Shalini also said that initially she thought the teenager was a foolish woman, but gradually she realised that she had been groomed to think so.

Maharaj also stars Junaid Khan alongside Shalini Pandey, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sharvari Wagh. The story of the film is set in pre-independence India and focuses on the Maharaj defamation case of 1862, which according to an official note is inspired by ‘allegations of misconduct by a prominent person’.

Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan plays Karsandas Mulji, a journalist and women’s rights activist who studied at Elphinstone College in Mumbai and was mentored by Dadabhai Naoroji.

Post the release of the film, fans shared their reviews on their X handles and praised the plot and other characters calling it a powerful debut for Junaid.

Meanwhile, Maharaj is directed by Siddharth P Malhotra and produced by Aditya Chopra under YRF Entertainment and is currently streaming on Netflix.
