Madras High Court questions CBFC’s delay in certifying Vijay’s ‘Jannanayagan’ ahead of January 10 release
In this special report, Anagha Keshav details the Censor Board’s investigation by the Madras High Court in relation to the film Jananayagan. The court questioned the CBFC over its ‘inordinate delay in issuing the censor certificate for the film Jananayagan’, which is scheduled to release on January 10. The project, starring Vijay in what is expected to be his final film, has been put on hold despite being screened before the committee on December 19. The CBFC argued that ‘the film Jananayagam contains images of the symbols of the Indian Defense Forces’ and required an expert opinion for clearance. KVN production house had sought a UA-16+ certificate for the film, but the matter was again referred to a review committee. The judge questioned the procedural delays and the need for a second committee review just days before the scheduled theatrical debut. The program explores the legal arguments presented before the Madras High Court as the production house awaits final certification.
