As an Apple fan or as a potential buyer who wants to buy a new laptop, I’m sure you’re excited about the rumored M4 MacBook Air, which is expected to arrive in 2025. In fact, several reports are pointing to an imminent refresh of the MacBook airing sometime between March and June next year. But the thing is – you don’t have to wait that long to get an upgraded MacBook Air. If you recall, Apple made some big changes to the current MacBook Air lineup, and those changes offer good value, making now an excellent time to buy one.
Let’s start with the M4 chip. It’s already available in other Apple products, like the latest iPad Pro, the new iMac, and some Mac mini models. More powerful versions of the M4 also power the MacBook Pro and the higher-end Mac mini. By the time the M4 MacBook Air is released, there won’t be too many surprises in terms of performance. Sure, it will be faster than its predecessors, but not by a staggering margin.
What about the design? Don’t expect big changes here too. Apple’s recent track record suggests that the M4 MacBook Air will likely stick to the same slim and sleek design that we’ve seen with the M2 and M3 Air models. Midnight, Starlight, Silver and Space Gray are the colors we’ve come to expect, and while many hope for iMac-inspired color options, it’s unlikely Apple will go that route. If anything, we might see Space Gray replaced with Space Black, as Apple did with the M4 MacBook Pro. But overall, the design should probably look pretty familiar. Or, surprise me, Apple!
So, does this mean the M4 MacBook Air won’t be worth the wait? no way. It’s still expected to be a top-tier laptop, possibly even with a nanotexture display option like the MacBook Pro. Who knows? However, current models of the MacBook Air – especially with their recent updates – are already excellent choices.
One of the most significant changes Apple made this year was doubling the RAM on the base models of the M2 and M3 MacBook Air. This is correct! Both the current generation and the previous generation now come with 16GB of RAM, up from 8GB as standard. And here’s the best part – Apple didn’t raise the price. This change is what makes the current MacBook Air lineup great. For anyone who works with multiple apps or has countless browser tabs open, extra RAM can make a noticeable difference in performance, even more than an annual chip upgrade. Trust me, my M1 MacBook Air has 8GB of RAM and while I think the chipset is still fast enough, I really wish I could increase the RAM to 16GB on my machine.
Apple has also kept the MacBook Air lineup exciting with other updates. For example, while the M2 chip was still Apple’s latest, they introduced a larger 15-inch MacBook Air for the first time with the M3, for users who prefer a larger display. Moves like these show that Apple isn’t just struggling between chip upgrades — they’re actively enhancing the user experience.
If you’re considering buying a MacBook Air this holiday season, here’s what you need to know about pricing. The M2 MacBook Air is officially listed at Rs 99,900, but with the card offer on Amazon, you can get it for around Rs 88,000. Meanwhile, the list price of the new M3 MacBook Air is Rs 1,14,900, but with the same offer the price comes down to around Rs 98,000. These deals make existing models even more attractive, especially considering the RAM upgrades.
Ultimately, whether you’re buying for yourself or giving a gift to someone else, you can’t go wrong with the current MacBook Air lineup. Sure, the M4 MacBook Air may bring some updates next year, but the improvements Apple has already made to the M2 and M3 Air models make them a smart choice today.
