Vijayta Pandit has opened up about her past relationship with her former co-star Kumar Gaurav. The two rose to fame very quickly after their debut film Love Story. In a recent interview with Lehran Retro, the former actress addressed rumours about her involvement in Kumar Gaurav’s engagement cancellation with Raj Kapoor’s daughter Rima Jain. Pandit also revealed that Kumar had promised to marry her despite her engagement with Jain and also revealed that they both fell in love.
She revealed that Kumar Gaurav, whom she fondly called Bunty, was the first boy she hugged while shooting for Love Story. She revealed that many romantic films such as Bobby, Betaab and Rocky had actors who fell in love in real life, which was often an integral part of their acting. She revealed how genuine Bunty’s love for her was; he was very attentive, often danced with her holding her hand, and was very charming.
However, her father and the film’s producer Rajendra Kumar disapproved of their relationship, expressing his displeasure by drinking alcohol and insisting that Bunty should marry someone from a respectable family. This worried Bunty, although Bunty would argue with his father and profess his love for her.
She further said that Rajendra Kumar, seeing Bunty’s deep affection for him, arranged Kumar Gaurav’s engagement with Raj Kapoor’s daughter Rima Jain. She attended the engagement ceremony and admired the big diamond ring Rima had received. When she commented on its beauty, Bunty reacted angrily and threatened to throw away the ring if she did not like it. This outburst worried her and she had to leave the place.
Despite the engagement, Bunty continued to visit her, although she never visited his home. Her parents were upset and her father even considered asking Rajendra Kumar to ensure that Bunty did not visit them. Despite his engagement, Bunty expressed his desire to marry her, which her mother dismissed as impossible.
Bunty vowed to marry her, but later he found out that she was in a relationship with Namrata Dutt, which led him to break off the engagement with Reema. He clarified that he had no hand in this development.
