A French appeal court said on Tuesday that it would investigate the case of Marine Le Penn within a time limit that may potentially allow the far-flung leader to contest for the 2027 presidential election if his sentence is overturned.
Many commentators are called a political earthquake while delivering the verdict in a court, Le Penn on Monday was convicted of a prison period and fined after being convicted of a fake jobs scheme in the European Union Parliament.
But the most serious part of the sentence was a five-year ban.-When standing for the effective-office, which ends him from the race.
Addressing his MPs on Tuesday, Le Penn, who considered himself a favorite in the 2027 election, in which President Emmanuel Macron could not stand again, accused the “system” of rolling the “nuclear bomb” on the “system”, so that he could end the Presidential expectations.
“If they use such a powerful weapon against us, this is clearly because we are going to win an election,” Le Penn said, “We will not let it happen.”
The Paris Court of Appeal later said on Tuesday that he would investigate the Le Pen’s case “within a time limit that should allow a decision to reach a decision in 2026”.
This may mean that the new test will be on the latest in early 2026, and so the decision will be handed over well before the 2027 presidential election, in which Le Penn wants to run for the fourth time.
In a statement signed by Chief Justice, Jacks Bullard, and Attorney General, Mary-Suzan Le Quu, the court stated that it had received three appeals against the rule submitted on Monday.
The announcement was made after the Minister of Justice Graeld Daramanin, speaking during a stressful parliament session, hoping that Le Penn’s appeal would be heard within the “most appropriate time frame”.
“I personally hope that if Mrs. Le Pen reduces an appeal, the new decision in the Paris Court of appeal may be within the most appropriate time limit,” Darmanin told Parliament.
Analysts said the court’s verdict may deepen the French political crisis and put a shadow in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Le Penn’s National Rally (RN), which is the largest single party in Parliament, can complicate life for Prime Minister Francois Bayoro, which does not have a majority in the Lower House National Assembly.
If Le Penn loses his appeal, there is also a “Plan B”, a candidature by his protect and RN party leader Jordan Bardela, with a clever television and social media appearance with 29 years old.
‘There is no untouchable’
The atmosphere in Parliament was particularly tense.
Le Penn, an MP and head of his party’s parliamentary group, attended the session and was seen laughing and talking with his colleagues.
“I don’t want to tell that here it can be said that our democracy is being reduced by the judiciary,” said Bairo. “This is not true”.
Le Penn’s sentence from far-flung down data across Europe, but Kremlin, X owners Elon Musk and Trump reacted in anger, while Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni expressed concern.
US President Donald Trump said, “He was banned from running for five years and he is a leading candidate. It seems like this country.”
“There is no untouchable: he made a mistake, he would have to pay for it,” a waiter, Nathnell Fitchou, said at the southern port of Marsile.
78 -year -old Nicole Prolhak said she was “angry” as Le Penn represented millions of French voters.
“But can we give to someone who has embezzled the country?”
‘I’m trusting you’
The National rally party said that it would organize a rally in support of Le Penn in Paris on Sunday.
“I’m trusting you!” He said on X.
Talking to Europe 1 radio, Bardela said Le Penn was judged with “cruelty and violence” and that her only mistake was the “ability to take the national camp to win”.
“Everything will be done to prevent us from coming to power,” he said.
He said that the situation can promote RN’s fate.
“I tell that French does not lose hope.”
‘No political decision’
French prosecutor General Remi Hetez said the decision was “not a political decision but a legal one”.
Le Penn took over the former National Front (FN) from his father Jean-Mary Le Penn in 2011 and has since demanded to clean its image. His father, who died in January, was often accused of making racist and anti -Jewish comments.
After three unsuccessful presidential campaigns in 2012, 2017 and 2022, pole showed Le Penne to be easily topped in the first round with the opportunity to win the presidency in the second round run-off.
He was sentenced to four years in jail by the Paris court. Two years were suspended and the other two will be served outside the prison with electronic bracelet.
Le Penn was convicted for a plan where the party was reduced to the pressure on its own finance using the European Parliament monthly allowances to pay the “fictional” parliamentary assistants to the party, which actually worked for the party.
Twenty-four people were convicted with a pen, all of them were RN party officials or assistants.
