
ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) has said that a lawyer defending Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a Hindu priest arrested and accused of treason in Bangladesh, has been attacked. The case is expected to be heard in a Bangladesh court on December 3.
In a post on Twitter, ISKCON spokesperson, Radharaman Das, said, “Please pray for lawyer Ramen Roy. His only ‘mistake’ was defending Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in court. Islamists vandalized his house and attacked him. Brutally attacked, causing them to be released.” ICU, fighting for his life”.

Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a prominent former leader of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Bangladesh, was arrested last month in Dhaka following protests by the Hindu community in Rangpur, demanding stronger legal protection for minority groups. Protest rallies were held in West Bengal and several other states that share borders with Bangladesh.
In Tripura, criticism has taken the form of boycott. The apex travel sector association has said hotels and restaurants have decided not to accept bookings from tourists from Bangladesh.
Earlier today, over 50 protesters reportedly entered the premises of the Bangladesh Mission in Tripura capital Agartala, causing panic among officials and staff at the premises. India described the incident as “extremely regrettable”.
