Lady Gaga is ‘completely grateful’ for her performance at the Olympics opening ceremony
Lady Gaga has expressed gratitude after receiving mixed reviews for her performance at the Olympics opening ceremony. The singer explained that although she is not a French artist, she has always felt a special connection with French music and people.

Lady Gaga’s performance at the Olympics opening ceremony in Paris received mixed reactions from social media users. While some praised her, others criticised her for alleged technical difficulties. The ‘Poker Face’ singer wrote a note on X after her performance, thanking everyone for the warm welcome. She also mentioned that although she is not a French artist, she always felt a special connection with French music and people.
Amid mixed reviews for her performance at the Olympics, Lady Gaga wrote on X, “I feel absolutely grateful to have been asked to open the Paris @Olympics2024 this year. I am also humbled to have been asked by the Olympic Organizing Committee to sing such a special French song – a song to honor the French people and their tremendous history of art, music and theater. The song was sung by Paris-born French ballerina Zizi Jeanmaire, she sang “Mon truc en plumes” in 1961. The title means “My Thing with Feathers.” (sic).”
She added, “And this is not the first time we have met each other. Zizi starred in Cole Porter’s musical “Anything Goes”, which was my first jazz release. Although I am not a French artist, I have always felt a very special connection with French people and singing French music – I wanted to create a performance that would touch the heart of France, celebrate French art and music, and remind everyone of one of the most magical cities on earth – Paris, on such an important occasion. We rented pom poms from Le Lido Archive – a real French cabaret theater (sic).”
She concluded her note with, “We collaborated with Dior to create a custom costume using naturally molted feathers. I studied French choreography, which put a modern twist on a French classic. I practiced tirelessly to study a joyous French dance, refreshing some old skills – I bet you didn’t know that when I was first starting out, I used to dance at a 60s French party on the Lower East Side! I hope you love this performance as much as I do. And to everyone in France, thank you so much for welcoming me to your country to sing in your honor – it’s a gift I will never forget! Congratulations to all the athletes competing in this year’s Olympic Games! It is my highest honor to sing for you and cheer you on!! Watching the Olympic Games always makes me cry! Your talent is unimaginable. Let the games begin! (sic).”
