Konkana Sen Sharma discussed maternity fine, paternity premium in Bollywood

Actor Konkona Sen Sharma has recently talked about obstacles to mothers working in the Indian film industry. He has mentioned ‘maternity penalty’ that women face in Bollywood.
Konkona, in an interview, in an interview, highlighting the need for work-life balance in the film industry FirstpostSaid, “I really want to say that at the day and age, any industry has a certain maternity penalty that is called. It is called paternity premium and maternity penalty.”
He added, “Because what happens is the father, because they have children and they become more and more senior, they earn more and more. But for women with every child, for women, there is a financial shock because the way you expect you or are not able to participate in the matter that the office demands work.”
“What is going to happen now, finally it is that women are not encouraged for children because it is becoming more and more difficult. You know, to participate in work life, and becoming a good mother at the same time is becoming more difficult,” the actor said.
“So, I think it’s something that governments eventually have to change policies for the mothers working. Otherwise it is not going to happen,” said Konkona. The actor herself is a working mother as she is co-owned by actor former husband Ranveer Shor. The pair married in 2019 and divorced in 2020.
Konkona was last seen in Abhishek Chaubey’s crime-thriller series ‘Killer Soup’, which was Manoj Bajpayee’s co-act.
It will be seen next time in Anurag Basu’s ‘Metro … In Dino’ (2025). He has been associated with Pankaj Tripathi in the film. The upcoming film ‘Life … in a metro (2007)’ is a spiritual sequel.
