Kolkata rape-murder case: Director Vivek Agnihotri joins protests

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has taken a strong stand against the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. He also participated in the protest rally held on August 21.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has raised his voice against the rape-murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. Agnihotri participated in a protest rally from Moula Ali to Dorina Crossing in Kolkata on Wednesday, August 21.

In an interview ANI, Vivek said,Here rape has been used as a political weapon. I am saying that this current government and system should end. Communal, political and electoral violence should end in Bengal and we have to make Bengal great again and this is possible only when the current political system changes completely.(Here rape has been used as a political weapon. I am saying that this current government and system needs to be abolished. Communal, political and electoral violence in Bengal has to be stopped and we have to make Bengal great again, which is possible only when the entire current political system is changed.)

The ‘Kashmir Files’ director said, “Enough is enough. Using rape and crime against women as a political weapon must stop. We have to reclaim the lost glory of Bengal. We have to make Bengal great again if we want India to succeed.”

On August 20, Vivek Agnihotri shared a video on Instagram and announced that he would join the protest. He wrote, “Namaste, Kolkata! Tomorrow, I will be joining the protest rally against the brutal rape and murder of an on-duty doctor. I urge all citizens to join me in demanding safety of women and our right to life. Rally: 21st August, 3:30 pm, Moula Ali to Dorina Crossing.”
