Kiran Rao directorial Lapata Ladies releases in Japan today, October 4. The film, which received immense love on the big screen, has been selected as India’s official entry for Oscars 2025.

After a successful run in India, the film is all set to make waves in Japan. Moreover, this is another achievement for the film after its Oscar entry. The film also won the Best Film Critics’ Choice Award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2024 (IFFM).

Set in rural India, the film tells the story of two brides who get separated during a train journey, triggering a series of unexpected and complicated events.

Presented by Jio Studios, Missing Ladies is directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande. The film is produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, with the screenplay based on the award-winning story by Biplab Goswami. The screenplay and dialogues are written by Sneha Desai, while additional dialogues are written by Divyanidi Sharma.
