Kiran Rao announces the release of ‘Missing Ladies’ in Japan with Japanese trailer
Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapata Ladies’ is the story of two new brides, played by Nitanshi Goyal and Pratibha Ranta, who get swapped on a train. This comedy-drama challenges patriarchy using the narrative device of satire.
Filmmaker Kiran Rao’s critically acclaimed 2024 film ‘Missing Ladies’ is all set to release in theatres in Japan. Rao announced the same on Instagram while sharing the film’s trailer in Japanese language.
Along with the video, Rao wrote, “Lapata Ladies will be available in Japan from October 4th, 2024! We are very excited for its theatrical release in Japan by Shochiku, Japan – Arigato Gozaimasu! (sic).”

As soon as Rao shared the news, Nitanshi expressed her happiness in the comments section, writing, “Yayyy yayyy!”
Earlier, the film was screened in the Supreme Court. The screening of the 2024 film was held as part of a gender sensitisation programme and was attended by judges of the apex court. The film became a box office hit when it hit theatres on March 1 and was also a huge success on Netflix, where it broke several viewership records.
Co-produced by Aamir Khan, Missing Ladies also stars Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam and Geeta Agarwal Sharma in pivotal roles. The film is based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami. The screenplay and dialogues are penned by Sneha Desai, while additional dialogues are written by Divyanidhi Sharma.
