Dream Slate Pictures has officially announced the much-awaited biopic feature film ‘Bedi: The Name You Know. The Story You Don’t’, based on the life of India’s first female IPS officer Dr. Kiran Bedi. Written and directed by award-winning Kushal Chawla, the film aims to showcase the untold events, personal and professional challenges, and determination that defined Dr. Bedi’s illustrious career in law enforcement.

In a statement during the announcement, Dr. Kiran Bedi said, “This story is not just my story. It is the story of an Indian woman – an Indian woman who grew up in India, studied in India, raised by Indian parents and worked for the people of India throughout her career. My story began at the age of nine when my father told me, ‘Life is on a slope, either you go up or you come down,’ and my mother said, ‘You must be a giver, not a taker.’ These statements have remained my guiding principles. As we aim to release this film in the 50th International Women’s Year, it will be the story of an Indian woman who will represent our great nation internationally.”

Dr Bedi emphasised that the film is for all generations and all professions, embodying the spirit of ‘Karma as Puja’ and ‘Karmayogi’ from the spiritual teachings.

Kushal Chawla, the creative force behind the film, shared his passion for the project: “This film is a labour of love. Four years of extensive research and screenplay writing have been dedicated to ensure an authentic and insightful portrayal of India’s most loved and iconic police officer, Dr Kiran Bedi. It is an honour and privilege to write and direct a film about the unique life of Dr Kiran Bedi. She has been a tremendous inspiration to me, and to have her trust to direct this film is truly a blessing.”

Chawla said, “In this feature film, I will showcase the heartwarming transformations, unseen victories and extraordinary personal and professional journey of Dr Bedi as she made her way as the first woman in the male-dominated world of policing. I believe the audience will truly get to know the woman behind the khaki and will be inspired and moved by her unwavering dedication and tireless guidance.”
