King Charles warmly embraces New Zealand women’s rugby team

King Charles spent a joyous moment with the New Zealand women’s rugby union team at Buckingham Palace, where he shared a hug with the Black Ferns.

The rugby team also took a selfie with King Charles, which the Black Ferns shared on social media as a memorable moment.

New Zealand winger Ayeisha Leti-Iiga broke protocol by asking the King if he would mind hugging the Black Ferns. To this King Charles did not waste any time and immediately agreed.

“We all wanted to hug, but only if you don’t mind,” Leti-Iiga asked politely.

“A hug? Why not?” King Charles replied.

Currently, the Black Ferns are in the UK to take on England’s Red Roses at Twickenham on Saturday.

Prior to the match, Buckingham Palace hosted the New Zealand women’s rugby union team out of respect for the visiting players.

Meanwhile, the royal family announced that the King and Queen would visit Australia and Samoa from October 18 to 26.

“Their Majesties the King and Queen will be on an autumn tour from Friday 18 to Saturday 26 October 2024. This will include a royal visit to Australia, a state visit to the Independent State of Samoa and attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024,” the royal family said in a statement.

King Charles will also attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Samoa.

It adds, “Her Majesty’s visit to Australia will be Her Majesty’s first visit to the realm as Monarch, while the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa will be Her Majesty’s first as Head of the Commonwealth. In both countries, Their Majesties’ events will focus on themes designed to celebrate the best of Australia and Samoa, as well as reflect aspects of the King and Queen’s work.”
