King Charles III and Queen Camilla have taken to Instagram to wish the monarch warm weather amid his health struggles.
In the Christmas card shared on Instagram, King Charles III and Queen Camilla are smiling for the camera. The message on the card read, “Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.” This photo was clicked in April.
The note shared with the card reads, “Christmas is coming… Her Majesty is pleased to share this year’s Christmas card, taken by Millie Pilkington in the gardens of Buckingham Palace in April 2024.”

The Christmas wish comes nearly nine months after Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer during a “routine hospital procedure for a benign prostate enlargement.” Following the announcement, the monarch withdrew from public engagements for a period of time to receive treatment. At the time, Buckingham Palace said the king remained optimistic about his treatment and was looking forward to returning to his royal duties as soon as he is able to do so.
By April 2024, King Charles was able to resume his royal commitments, starting with a visit to a cancer treatment center to meet patients and medical staff. In June 2024, the King and Queen hosted a state visit to the Emperor and Empress of Japan, an important diplomatic event.
Buckingham Palace also expressed gratitude in a statement, saying, “Her Majesty is deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and well wishes she has received from around the world during the joys and challenges of the past year.”
Charles’ health battle was also part of a difficult year for the royal family, which also included Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. The Princess of Wales, 42, revealed her diagnosis in March, following her stomach surgery in January 2024. Kate took time off from public engagements for treatment but gradually resumed her duties, and made a public appearance at the Trooping the Color parade in June 2024. By September, he announced that his chemotherapy was complete and he had completed his treatment.
Charles and Camilla will take over the monarchy in May 2023 after the death of their mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022.
