South Korean actors Kim Soo-hyun and Park Min-young attended KCON LA 2024 in the US. The two stars held fan meetings and celebrated Korean culture.
South Korean stars Kim Soo-hyun and Park Min-young graced KCON LA 2024 with their presence. The lead cast of K-drama ‘Queen of Tears’ and ‘Marry My Husband’ wowed fans during a special fan meeting on July 27 and 28.
Park Min-young hosted ‘Park Min Young Special Fan Meeting: Marry My Husband’ on the stage on July 27, while Kim Soo-hyun hosted another one on July 28.
During their fan meetings, both stars shared their favourite K-pop songs, stories behind their K-drama shoots, and more.
At her fan conference, Min-young expressed her excitement about returning to LA after a long time and attributed the success of ‘Marry My Husband’ to its universal story that connects with people around the world. She also expressed her gratitude to “everyone who made this journey possible.”
Reflecting on her initial impression of the script, Park Min-young recalled, “At first I thought the title was a bit strange. However, once I started reading it, I couldn’t stop – it was a really interesting story. I read the whole script in one go.”
She called ‘What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim’ the most memorable drama she has been a part of, highlighting that it “allowed for more freedom and exaggerated expressions in acting,” and many fans still associate her with that role. The actor also revealed that her favorite BTS song is ‘Spring Day,’ which was featured in ‘Marry My Husband.’
After Min-young, Kim Soo-hyun held a fan meetingExpressing his delight at the event’s lively atmosphere, he said, “I have returned to KCON after nine years. The energy here is incredible, and it makes me feel really good.”
Kim revealed that she loves listening to INFINITE’s ‘Paradise’ while riding a bike, which is one of her favorite hobbies. She also mentioned her fondness for IU’s ‘Through the Night’ and BIBI’s ‘Bam Yang Gang’ for relaxation. Kim encouraged fans to try the ‘Bam Yang Gang Challenge’ even though its Korean pronunciation is challenging.
For travel, he recommended BOL4’s ‘Travel’ and NEWZINS’ ‘Attention’, stating that the former has “a nice musical tone” while the latter has “a song that makes you want to go somewhere.”
He concluded, “I’m currently preparing for a new K-drama, and the energy from the KCON audience has inspired me to work even harder on my new series, which I think will air next year.”
This year, “Marry My Husband” became the first K-drama to rank No. 1 globally on Amazon Prime Video’s daily TV show rankings, spending 27 weeks in the streamer’s global top 10 — a first for a K-drama since Amazon Prime Video’s global launch in 2016.
‘Queen of Tears’, which concluded in April, set a tvN record with a 24.9% average viewer rating for its final episode, the highest in tvN’s history. It topped Netflix’s global top 10 list of non-English-language shows within three weeks of airing and has maintained its position in the streamer’s global top 10 for 15 consecutive weeks, solidifying its status as a global phenomenon.
The event, called KCON, which took place from July 26 to 28 in Los Angeles, USA, offered an immersive experience covering various aspects of K-pop, K-food, K-beauty and Korean culture.
