“Now, there is no point in further discussion after the High Court order. The honorable judges did not find any lapse in the functioning of the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification),” he said.
Shah emphasized that his film was reviewed by an eight-member committee instead of the board’s regular five-member committee. He further added, “I would like to make a clarification: Normally, the censor screening of a film involves a five-member committee. However, for this film, there were eight members, including two social activists from Kerala, to ensure that there is no misrepresentation related to the state.”
The 58-year-old further revealed the identities of some of the review committee members. He said, “A professor from Delhi, an expert on socio-political subjects, was also invited to the screening. After these three experts watched the film and shared their feedback, the certificate was granted by the CBFC. Although the court had initially ignored this aspect, the latter bench accepted the experts’ opinion and concluded that there was no reason to question the certification.”

What happened in court on Friday?
A division bench of Justice SA Dharmadhikari and PV Balakrishnan on Friday set aside an earlier order passed by a single-judge bench of Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas, which had temporarily halted the release of the film while acting on a petition filed against the censor certificate.
Justice Thomas on Thursday had imposed a 15-day stay and directed the CBFC to investigate the representations filed against the film. Earlier, the court had pulled up the censor board for issuing U/A rating to the film. That he “did not follow the guidelines.”
The producers immediately filed an appeal against the decision the same day. Recognizing the time-sensitive nature of the situation, the Division Bench gathered for a special session at 7:30 pm on Friday to review the challenge. After a hearing that lasted for over two hours, the bench decided to reserve its final verdict.
On Friday, the court announced its verdict, lifted the interim stay and allowed the film to be released. Although the legal path is now clear, the makers are yet to confirm the revised date of the film’s theatrical release.
