The ongoing conversation over working hours in the Indian film industry has gained renewed attention greatness Actress Keerthy Suresh is providing her insight on the subject. She was speaking while preparing for the release of her upcoming film revolver ritaSuresh commented on the increasing demand for eight-hour workdays for actors and crew members, an issue that has sparked debate among industry professionals and the wider public.
During the Telugu press conference of revolver ritaSuresh pointed out that while some film industries in India have adopted strict schedules, others demand long working hours from their teams. She said, “Actually, I do all kinds of shifts: 9 to 6, 9 to 9 and 9 to 2. When I started, during shooting greatnessI shot five other films (simultaneously). I have also done such shoots where the time is only from 9 to 6.
She further added, “For me personally, I will work both ways, but let me tell you the general scenario, what happens in a day for an actor. We all say 9 to 6, but I don’t know if we all understand what happens behind this 9 to 6. When you say 9 to 6, at 9 o’clock we have to be ready with make-up. That means we have to be on the sets at 7.30, which means we have to We have to go by 6.30, for which we will have to get up.” At 5.30 in the morning.”
“After packing up around 6 or 6.30, you change clothes and leave the set by 7. By the time you reach your home or hotel, it’s 8 o’clock. You change and go for a workout, and by the time you come back, it’s 10. Take a bath and have dinner, it’ll be 11. Now, what time do I have to wake up in the morning? 5.30. After all these things, It’s still 11.30 when you sleep. Usually, we say eight hours of sleep is good for health, but we barely get six hours of sleep, even if it’s a 9 to 6 shift – imagine you get only five hours of sleep or even less. Now imagine the technicians who come before us and leave later,” he said while highlighting how a day in the life of an actor goes. Is.
Talking about how the work ethic varies from industry to industry, Keerthy Suresh said, “It varies between industries. In Tamil and Telugu, the standard is a 9 to 6 shift. If for some important scenes in particular locations, they call for a 9 to 9 shift. But in Malayalam and Hindi, it is 12 hours. I have tried to analyze the differences myself. In Malayalam, they don’t have breaks at all.” They work on a consistent schedule.”
He further added, “I have a lot of friends who work there, a lot of assistant directors, and they say how difficult it is. They sleep just three to four hours, and in Kerala, I think the light men sleep only two hours. So sleep is a big problem. The way we say eating is important and working out is important. In the same way, sleep is also very important. So this is the scenario – I will work in both the shifts, but generally there is a reason why they say That a man should work eight hours a day.”
Suresh shared that the emphasis on eight-hour days is not only for the benefit of the actors, but is also aimed at supporting the large crew, many of whom work behind the scenes in tough conditions. He believes this approach can help solve fatigue issues and maintain a healthy work environment on set.
