Actress Kareena Kapoor recently recalled her sister Karisma’s Bollywood debut. She also revealed how her father reacted to her decision to pursue acting.

Actress Kareena Kapoor recently spoke about her and her sister Karisma Kapoor’s decision to pursue acting. In an interview, the actress also spoke about her father Randhir Kapoor’s reaction.
During an interview with The Week, Kareena Kapoor Khan shared that when her sister Karisma decided to pursue acting, her family was very supportive of it. She said, “My mother was very supportive of my sister, and she would say ‘I want you to do what you want to do’ and, the funny thing is, at that time, my father, who people really think of, was like ‘No, don’t do that’, he said, ‘If you want to do this, you should try and figure it out on your own. I am not going to help you in any way.'”
She said that her father, who was not working at that time (in the 90s), told Karisma to ‘figure it out’ on her own. She recalled that her father said, ‘It’s not like you come from this legacy, there’s a 100 percent chance that you’re going to be a big star, or I’m going to help you become an actor, or get you a film, or produce a film, there was never any kind of stake. He encouraged us to do it on our own.’
During the same interview, he said that Karisma ‘revived a household’ with her decision to pursue acting. He shared, “My grandfather had passed away, my father had made a film, Henna. Of course, Chintu uncle (Rishi Kapoor) was a brilliant superstar actor, but at that time, apart from him, no one else was working. So Karisma was really the first female Kapoor who became such a huge sensation and star.”
Karishma made her Bollywood debut in 1991 with the film ‘Prem Qaidi’ opposite Harish Kumar. She was 17 years old at that time. After this, she worked in films like ‘Anari’, ‘Coolie No. 1’ and ‘Raja Hindustani’.
Karisma was last seen in the 2024 film ‘Murder Mubarak’. Streaming on Prime Video, it also starred Sara Ali Khan, Vijay Verma, Pankaj Tripathi, Tisca Chopra among others.
