Karan Johar revealed that his mother suggested him to perform havan to remove the negativity around him; he said she would often break down.

Karan Johar is one of the biggest and most successful filmmakers in Bollywood. However, so much success and fame has come at a heavy price for him, where he has been brutally trolled on social media over the years. The filmmaker also decided to quit X (formerly Twitter) in October 2022 and is still away from the platform.

Now, she has revealed how social media trolling affected her and her mother.

When Karan Johar’s mother asked him to perform a havan

In a recent interview with Faye D’Souza, Karan Johar shared that his mother was so affected by the negativity around him that she suggested him to perform a havan (homam) to remove the “negative aura” around him. He also recalled that once she cried asking why people don’t know how “loving and giving” he really is.

The RRKPK director said that perhaps because of the talk show he hosts (Koffee with Karan), people see him as a foul-mouthed and cunning person who ruins people’s careers while sitting on a “high throne of authority”. “So, when Rocky Aur Rani was releasing, all I wanted was for it to be a success,” he said.

Karan Johar said that he never let trolls get to him, but in the last few years, trolls have bothered him a lot, which left his mother Hiroo Johar devastated. He also said that he thought his film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani would not work because people hate him.

The filmmaker said that people had made a wrong assumption about him and he had become the poster boy for everything that was said about Bollywood. He revealed that when he used to come back home, he would see a news anchor shouting while talking about him and his mother would cry watching it every other day.

After RRKPK, Karan Johar is gearing up to direct another film which is yet to have a title. Meanwhile, his latest production Kill released in theatres on July 5. Starring Lakshya and Raghav Juyal in the lead, the action thriller has received a good response from critics and audiences.
