Kantara: Chapter 1 (Hindi) is closed for a good start at the Indian box office, in which initial estimates gave its first day collection Rs. Is kept in the limits of 16.50-17 crore night. The inauguration is best in Maharashtra and Eastern Circuit. Gujarat and central circuits are decent, but may be better, given that they are usually overindex for South Dubbed films. The answer was less than expected.
Given the extraordinary run of the original film, the expectations within the business were Akash-high. With the additional advantage of release release, the film was expected to open around the film. 40 crores either, similar to sequel to South Brakeouts like Bahubali, KGF and Pushpa.
Those elevated expectations were quickly rejected when the advance was opened, as there was no crowd in the booking. In fact, the initial advances were slightly less, and it seemed that the film was almost Rs. 100 million. However, the advance gained some momentum towards the end yesterday, and today the movement in the current sales further improved, the film was Rs. 15 crore mark.
When the expectations are viewed independently, the number of early days is quite good, especially for this type of film, because it is not a specific masala actioner that starts bigger. It was expected that appreciation for the first film would promote its initial draw, but it is not completely physical. However, the minor hiccup is that these numbers have come on a national holiday, and collections usually fall the next day. It needs to be seen where the film descends tomorrow, and it will define where the film will be.
The opening for the original and dubbed versions is better in the south. However here too, it could probably score high. The day of All India opening is about Rs. 60 crore gross including preview of Wednesday night.
