Kangana Ranaut takes a dig at Deepika Padukone’s role in Padmaavat
Actress Kangana Ranaut said in an interview that Sanjay Leela Bhansali first offered her Padmaavat, but she rejected the role because he could not convince her about the script.
Actress Kangana Ranaut commented on Deepika Padukone’s role in the 2018 hit film Padmaavat. The actor played the role of Rani Padmavati in this film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In an interview, Kangana shared that she was offered the same role by Bhansali in the film, but she found it ‘irrelevant’.
While promoting her film Emergency on Sudhankar Mishra’s podcast, the 38-year-old actress said that Bhansali did not show her the script. Kangana said,I was also offered Padmavat. So I asked him, ‘Sir, it would be good if I get your script’. He said ‘I never give scripts’ (I was offered Padmaavat. I politely asked him to show me the script of the film. And he said he doesn’t give scripts).”
The three-time National Award winning actor continued to talk about what made him reject the role in Padmaavat. Kangana said, “I said ‘So sir what is the role of the heroine?’ It is said, ‘The role of the heroine is only that he sees her in the mirror for the first time, and she is getting ready’ (Then I asked him to elaborate on my character. And he said it was about a man looking at him in the mirror while he was getting ready).”
The actor further quipped on the role. He said that when he later watched Padmaavat, he realized that Deepika was only getting ready during the entire film.
,And when I saw the movie, all that preparation is happening in the movie. And he was right. she’s just getting ready (When I watched the movie, I noticed how she was just getting ready throughout the movie). Just getting ready. I don’t want to take names and focus on any particular person, but I want to ask you which director should I work with?” she asked.
Apart from Deepika, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor were also in the lead roles in Padmaavat. It performed well at the box office and subsequently won several awards.
Meanwhile, Kangana’s Emergency released on January 17 to a lukewarm response at the box office. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, Vishak Nair and late Satish Kaushik in important roles. It is based on the political events that took place between 1975–77 after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared ‘Emergency’ in the country.
