Kangana Ranaut has shared a post praising Meena Kumari. Sharing a small glimpse of her acting prowess, Ranaut recalled how she was the only person who was called an ‘actress’ while all her contemporaries were called ‘heroines’.

Sharing a clip from the 1972 film ‘Pakeezah’, Kangana Ranaut wrote, “I haven’t seen much of Meena ji’s work but I have read a lot and she was well known for her work. This hair-raising transformation from sadness to hysterical laughter and then disillusionment is beyond supreme (sic).”

She said, “Apparently in her days no one dared to call other actresses actresses, the media and the film industry said they were all actresses, there was only one actress and that was Meena Kumari.”

Meena Kumari was called the Tragedy Queen for the roles she played and for her brilliant portrayal of silently suffering heartbroken women. She has been a part of classic films like Baiju Bawra (1952), Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962) and Pakeezah (1972). She died of liver cirrhosis in 1972 at the age of 38.

Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut will be seen in ‘Emergency’, where she will play the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
