Kamal Haasan urged to learn voluntary language, opposed imposing Hindi in the south

Kamal Haasan has addressed the issue of imposing Hindi in the south, promoting his new film ‘Thug Life’. Despite being involved in controversy over his comments in Kannada language, the actor made his stand clear. He emphasized that learning should be done without imposing and education should take the smallest route without obstacles.
Hassan suffered after Kannada was born out of Tamil. His film ‘Thug Life’ was not released after refusing to apologize in Karnataka. Now, in an interview PTIHaasan said, “I am an actor from ‘a duje ke li’. Without imposing, we will not learn. This is not, because it is eventually education and we should take the smallest route for education and do not obstruct our own way.”
The ruling party in Tamil Nadu has strongly opposed the three-language policy launched under the National Education Policy (NEP), accusing the BJP-led NDA government of trying to impose Hindi-a claim that the Center has refused. Actor Kamal Haasan echoed the concerns raised by states like Punjab, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, saying that implementing a particular language hinders the learning process.
Haasan further argued that for global opportunities, students should be encouraged to learn international languages such as English, Spanish or Chinese. He emphasized that English education has a deep root history in India, especially in Tamil Nadu, and suddenly changing it with Hindi can be functionally illiterate to many people. He also questioned the government’s commitment to protect the rights of language and gave voice to concerns over the push for Hindi.
Kamal Haasan said, “And English seems quite appropriate. You can also do Spanish, or can also do sugar. But I think the smallest path is that the smallest path is that we have 350 years of English education, slowly but continuously. So when you suddenly change it suddenly, you unnecessarily illiterate many people, especially in Tamilan.”
He said, “You suddenly force everyone through Hindi and you tell them that you will not be able to get your job beyond Vindhya, so you start thinking, what about the promises? What about my language? Is I not one of 22 (official languages)? These are questions that are coming.”
Meanwhile, ‘Thug Life’ faced a backlash in Karnataka after a controversy over his comment about Kannada and Tamil languages. The film hit theaters on 5 June and also stars Silambarson TR and Trisha Krishnan.
