Kamal Haasan expressed condolences for Wing Commander Naman Syal, called him the pride of India.
Wing Commander Naman Syal of the Indian Air Force died in the Tejas crash during rehearsals for the Dubai Airshow 2025. His death has sparked grief across the country, with Kamal Haasan among others paying tribute.

After the Indian Air Force pilot died in a Tejas fighter jet crash during rehearsals for the Dubai Airshow 2025, Kamal Haasan has condoled the death of Wing Commander Naman Syal and called him “a brave son of India”.
Wing Commander Sayal died on Friday afternoon when his Tejas fighter plane went down while performing low-level aerobatic manoeuvres. This accident has sent a wave of mourning across the country and people continue to pay tribute.
Haasan shared his condolences on social media, writing, “Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Wing Commander Naman Syal, who gave his life while displaying the pride of our Indian Air Force, Tejas. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. India stands with you in this hour of immense grief.”

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu also paid tribute to the late pilot, who was a resident of Kangra. Describing the news as “heartbreaking”, he wrote, “The nation has lost a brave, dutiful and courageous pilot. I express my deepest condolences to the members of the bereaved family. I pay my heartfelt tribute to the indomitable bravery, devotion to duty and commitment to national service of the brave son Naman Sial ji (sic).”
The Indian Air Force confirmed the accident in an official statement, saying, “A Tejas aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed during an air display at the Dubai Air Show. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident. The Indian Air Force deeply regrets the loss of life and property and stands strongly with the bereaved family in this hour of grief. A Court of Inquiry is being constituted to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
Wing Commander Sayal was 34 years old. He is survived by his wife, who serves in the Indian Air Force, their six-year-old daughter and his parents. A graduate from Sainik School, Sujanpur Tira, he was commissioned into the Indian Air Force in December 2009.
