Kalki 2898 AD opened the floodgates at the Indian box office yesterday, grossing nearly Rs 100 crore. The film witnessed a massive 32 percent growth on Sunday, earning nearly Rs 98 crore. This takes the four-day extended weekend’s total to Rs 335.50 crore. This makes it the fifth-highest four-day opening of all time at the Indian box office overall, trailing only Baahubali 2, RRR, KGF 2 and Jawaan.
The Prabhas film saw relatively slow growth on Saturday due to the T20 World Cup final match between India and South Africa, so a higher growth than expected was expected, but the film grossed more than expected. North India saw an exceptional growth of over 50 per cent, with the Hindi dubbed version earning around Rs 46 crore on the fourth day.
The Telugu state, where a 10 per cent growth on Sunday is considered the best case for mega openers, did wonders with an astonishing 25 per cent growth. On the first day, Kalki was just 5 per cent ahead of Salaar, on Sunday it increased the lead to 11 per cent, while Sunday was the fourth day for Kalki and third for Salaar.

Kalki is the most expensive Indian film ever made, costing over Rs 650 crore. It seemed impossible to recover after poor trailers and then the opening day collections in Telugu states were not as good as they could have been. However, Sunday has confirmed that the cost will be recovered and profits will be decent. The trends are extremely positive and the film has done well in markets like North India, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, which can have a longer run than the Telugu states. It remains to be seen how the film fares on weekdays, but going by the weekend, Kalki could end up earning Rs 700 crore or more in India.
