Kafka has officially gone insane as he faces Isao Shinomiya, and fans can only wonder how this fight will affect Kafka’s dream of becoming a Defense Force officer – or whether he will even survive this ordeal. Kaiju No. 8 Episode 12 will surely have the answers, but for fans who can’t wait, here’s everything we know about what happens next, all taken from the manga.
Kaiju No. 8 Episode 12 spoilers from the manga
Kaiju No. 8 Episode 12 will be titled Kafka Hibino. The episode will likely cover chapters 36 to 38, continuing from the fight where Kafka loses control of his Kaiju form. As the episode begins, Kaiju No. 8’s violent and aggressive fighting style quickly overpowers Director General Isao Shinomiya.
Trapped in his own body, Kafka is horrified that his human form will not be able to withstand the self-destructive attack as the Kaiju is consuming enormous amounts of energy to regenerate. The fierce conflict ruptures the Ariake Marine Base in two.
Deputy Director Keiji Itami, observing the fight, says that if Isao really wanted to kill Kafka, he could have done so with his initial attack. Itami suspects that Isao is testing the limits of Kaiju No. 8’s power. Kikoru Shinomiya realizes that her father may have heeded her plea and that Kaiju No. 8 may give Kafka a chance to prove his humanity in episode 12.
However, as Number 8’s power grows, it begins to completely surpass Isao’s expectations. As the kaiju within Kafka continues to rage, it easily overpowers Isao, rendering his attacks ineffective. Kafka watches in fear, desperate to regain control and afraid to kill Isao in front of Kikoru.
As Kafka seems to be losing the battle against the Kaiju within him, he remembers Mina’s words that she will wait for him. Recalling this memory in Kaiju No. 8 Episode 12, Kafka manages to regain control, placing his hands on his chest and holding his core and declaring that he is Kafka Hibino, not a Kaiju.
Kafka then falls, and an officer, Captain General Narumi of the Defense Force First Division, appears, holding his weapon over Kafka’s body. Isao orders Narumi to get down, dismissing the idea that he wanted to die and admitting that he underestimated Kafka. He also calls for a medical team, saying that Kafka’s core is likely damaged.
When Narumi asks what Isao plans to do with Kafka, Kaiju No. 8 Episode 12 walks into the boardroom where Isao addresses the Defense Force’s high officials. Isao informs the board that Kafka will be used by their military without turning it into a weapon. Despite some dissent and skepticism, Isao insists that Kafka can be controlled.
He also emphasizes Kafka’s effectiveness during his work with the Third Division. Isao points out that transforming Kafka cannot achieve the same level of power and that the lack of a compatible user could render any weapons they create useless. With the emergence of new daikaiju, Isao argues that they need to make optimal use of all their resources to prevent a national catastrophe.
When further doubts arise, Isao reminds the board of the destruction caused by Kaiju No. 6 a decade ago and the dire consequences of a potential Kaiju swarm. He insists that Kafka’s extraordinary power may be the key to their survival.
Kaiju No. 8 Episode 12 will feature Kafka unconscious in a medical unit, his body being operated on by machines. In his subconscious, Kafka recalls his childhood with Mina, remembers his belief that all Kaiju are irreplaceable and vows to die as a human if a Kaiju takes over his body and mind.
Kafka wakes up in bed, shocked to find Isao next to him. Isao reassures Kafka to be careful, but Kafka only expresses relief that nothing happened to Isao, fearing he might not face Kikoru otherwise. Kafka then asks if Isao’s decision to let him live shows that he is recognized as a human and an officer. Isao points out that if Kafka were human he would be dead and says that Kafka is a kaiju.
However, he decides not to make a decision on whether or not Kafka is a threat in Kaiju No. 8 episode 12 and refers to him as Kafka Hibino. He informs Kafka that he must prove his usefulness, as opposed to letting him live. Kafka vows to prove himself as Isao’s officer.
Kaiju No. 8 Episode 12 will likely end somewhere in Kunitachi City, where Kaiju No. 9 will be seen shedding his skin. He then declares his intention to reclaim the great power of the Kaiju that has fallen into human hands.
