Justin Lupe was expecting her first child on the Nobody Wants This set and her co-star Kristen Bell was the first to know about it. On Thursday, May 10, during her appearance with her castmates on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the new mom described the entire scenario from how she openly broke the news to Bell and how she was nervous.
“I still remember he invited me to his house to work out together, which is very nice for a pregnant woman,” she recalled. When Lupe revealed she was pregnant, Bell, who was shivering under a sheet, was “panicking and running around with this mask on her face.”
After expressing her excitement, the Frozen actress, who is mom to daughters Lincoln, 11, and Delta, 9, offered some motherly advice to the mom-to-be. “That’s the most important thing, that’s the only thing – you can go anywhere in the world, have anything on your bucket list, but you’re going to go on the most special endeavor,” Lupe recalls Bell saying. .
The Succession actress admitted that although revealing the news was nerve-wracking, especially for her as a woman in the industry, it turned out to be the best thing ever.
The set of Nobody Wants This was filled with support, largely due to Bell’s fearless leadership and the understanding of show creator Erin Foster. “I felt really comfortable, happy and excited about being pregnant on set, which is a luxury,” she said.
On September 26, Lupe, who just welcomed her baby, took to social media to share some glimpses from the set. The actress not only announced that she was 5+ months pregnant during filming, but also that she hid the news from the cast and crew for a long time. “The show took me through the first 5-plus months of my pregnancy with great warmth,” Lupe said.
She thanked the “totally pregnant” Foster, Bell, a champion of motherhood, and the film’s cinematographer Adrian Peng Correia for showing her “not pregnant” on screen.
Nobody Wants This is streaming on Netflix.
