The 20-year-old Indian-American student Sudi Konanki disappeared on a spring brake trip for Panta Cain of Dominican Republic. The last person to see him, 22 -year -old Joshua Reebe – Now the person of interest – has provided conflicting accounts of night events.
Time period of events
Ms. Konanki, South Riding, a former-Mad University of Pittsburgh, a student of Virginia, traveled to the Republic of Dominican with five friends on leave. On 5 March, Ms. Konanki and her friend Punta went out to party at a resort nightclub of Caina. He was seen on a surveillance footage at the club and later seen walking on the beach at around 4:15 pm. By 5:50 am, most of his friends had left the beach, who had left Ms. Konanki alone with Joshua Reebe, a college senior in Minnesota with whom he met that night.
In CCTV footage from RIU Republic Resort, Ms. Konanki is shown walking with a hand with an unknown person, which is now believed that Mr. Reebe, with a resort route, with her friends. She was last seen tied in a ponytail to a white T-shirt, shorts and her hair.
Who is Joshua Reebe?
Joshua Reebe is a college senior at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, who obtains a degree in the Land Survey. He is a pool lifeguard.
ABC News reported that his family is described as a “kind, humorous and community-operated youth”,
He was originally not part of Ms. Konanki’s travel group, but met her on the night of her disappearance.
Testify of Joshua Reebe
Joshua Reebe told the investigators that she was with the Sudic Konanki the night she had disappeared.
According to a transcript received by NBC News, Mr. Reebe said that he was “in the back water, talking and kissing a little” when a strong wave pulled him into the sea.
Mr. Reebe, a trained pool lifeguard, claimed that she tried to catch Ms. Konanki under her arm, while floating back on the shore, making sure that she could breathe. He said, “I took a lot of water.”
When they reached the shallow water, Mr. Reebe set Ms. Konanki in front of her and saw her “walking in an angle in the water”. He last asked if he was fine, but he did not listen to his response because he started vomiting the sea water he swallowed.
By the time he recovered, Ms. Konanki was not seen anywhere. Thinking that she had left, Mr. Reebe passed on a beach chair. The surveillance footage later recorded him in his hotel alone, returning after hours.
Conflicting statement of Joshua Reebe
Initially, Mr. Reebe gave several versions of the events.
Version 1: He vomited, saw him standing, and assumed that he had left.
Version 2: He felt ill, left water, and last saw him in deep knee water.
Version 3: He saw him walking on the shore before going out.
Joshua Reebe’s passport confiscated
Officials have named Mr. Reebe as ‘person of interest’, not suspicious. His passport was confiscated, and he lives under police supervision in his hotel.
Joshua Reebe’s mother -father statement
Joshua Reebe’s parents Albert and Tina Reebe now issued a statement shared by various media outlets.
“We express our deep sorrow and solidarity with the family of Sudi Konanki during this painful time. At the top, we want to contribute to the search efforts and understand the pain and uncertainty that they are doing, and we share the hope that Sudik will get as soon as possible.”
Joshua Reebe “has been depressed deeply with her disappearance and has fully collaborated in the discovery and explanation of facts from the beginning.”
His parents claimed that by March 12, he was questioned under “irregular conditions” without official translators or legal lawyers. He alleged that he was limited in his hotel room under the police watch as the investigation started and was repeatedly taken for a long questioning starting from March 6, the day Ms. Connanki disappeared.

Officials, including the FBI, have started a massive discovery by using drones, helicopters, scuba divers, boats and all-terrain vehicles to detect Ms. Konanki. Dominican officials admitted that it was “minimal” the possibility of finding him alive, while the authorities suspect drowning, Ms. Konanki’s family feared that she may have been kidnapped. His father has urged the authorities to expand the investigation.
