Samantha Lawrence has formally filed for divorce from her husband Joey Lawrence, citing irreconcilable differences and demanding full physical custody of their daughter.
In the divorce papers, Samantha identified herself as Joey’s wife of only two years, and she made it clear that she doesn’t want either party to be awarded spousal support. As TMZ reports, she’s most interested in getting a custody timeshare for her daughter.
Recently, Samantha Cope hinted that all is not well between her and her husband, as she unfollowed Joey Lawrence on Instagram and also removed his name from her bio.
She has also been writing cryptic posts hinting at the end of their relationship. One of her posts on June 11, before filing for divorce, read, “Not everything you lose is a loss. Some things are freedom.” In her post, she quoted excerpts from Brianna Wiest’s 101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think, a self-help book.
According to the documents submitted, Samantha requested that Joey only see Dylan if she allowed him to. However, she agreed to allow Dylan, born in January 2023, to stay in her care for a maximum of two nights a week after he turns three.
However, she insisted that Joey should wait until Dylan is older before giving him long-term custody. This is because the child cannot make such choices. Furthermore, according to the documents, Samantha instructed that no one who has any relationship with Dylan should be near Dylan during visitation, unless she allows it.
Their romance began in 2020 while filming Lifetime’s My Husband’s Secret Brother. Joey and Samantha got engaged in August 2021 and married in May 2022. They celebrated the birth of their first child in January 2023, when Dylan was born. On Instagram, he wrote, “Mom, Dad and big sisters are all so impressed with you, sweet girl!”
Samantha came into the picture after Joey Lawrence split from ex-wife Chandi Yawn-Nelson in 2020 after 15 years of marriage. Joey has daughters Charleston, 18, and Liberty, 14, with Yawn-Nelson, and Dylan with Cope.
