In a surprising turn of events, the domain JioHotstar.com, which was originally purchased by a Delhi-based app developer with the hopes of funding his Cambridge education, has now been sold to a UAE-based sibling. The website now hosts a message titled “Welcome to our journey of service”, highlighting the philanthropic efforts of Jainam and Jeevika, two young siblings from Dubai. Their mission? Helping underprivileged children access education and inspiring them to dream big.

The domain now opens with an inspiring message from the siblings: “Hello! We are Jainam and Jeevika – brother-sister from Dubai, UAE, on a mission to make a difference. Even though we are just kids, we believe that age is just a number when it comes to spreading kindness and positivity. Our recent journey started during our summer holidays when we left our home in Dubai for 50 unforgettable days in India. Our goal was to: connect with kids from diverse backgrounds, share their love of learning, teach study and goal-setting skills, and inspire them to dream big.”
This update has left many netizens curious, especially those who were following the story of the original owner of the domain – a Delhi-based tech enthusiast. Earlier this year, the developer had bought JioHotstar.com anticipating a possible merger between Reliance Industries and Disney+ Hotstar. Inspired by Reliance’s previous acquisitions, such as rebranding Saavn to JioSaavn, he speculated that the merger could lead to a new “JioHotstar” branding. He believed that his domain could play an important role in this rebranding, and he hoped to sell it to Reliance in exchange for funding his Cambridge studies, which required approximately Rs 1 crore.
The developer posted a letter on the site addressed to Reliance Industries, proposing the sale of the domain to fund its education fund. However, Reliance responded with a strong rejection, and instead of engaging in negotiations, the company threatened legal action against the developer for trademark infringement. The rejection prompted the developer to withdraw its letter and reconsider its approach.
Shortly after, the developer shared a message on social media, revealing that his parents were deeply concerned about the media attention received by the domain saga. On a lighter note, he wrote, “My parents read the news and they are worried, very worried in fact. It wasn’t supposed to go that viral, man. Perhaps the legal battle can still be handled, brother, it is very difficult for the parents to understand. Good fight today.”
Following the developer’s withdrawal, the transfer of the domain to a UAE-based brother-sister duo has generated widespread curiosity. While the techie’s Cambridge dreams have been left behind, Jainam and Jeevika’s new mission has given JioHotstar.com an unexpected transformation from a tech story to one of service and inspiration.
