Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) hosted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for 2024 today, August 29. The event livestream began with an AI-generated Mukesh Ambani virtually gliding across the stage. An important theme of the RIL AGM this year was AI. “AI is the most evolutionary advancement known to mankind,” said RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani in his opening address. Announcing the company’s interest in AI development, Ambani also said that one “cannot ignore the developmental disparity amid rising aspirations” when it comes to Artificial Intelligence. “We have built an AI native digital infrastructure for all Reliance businesses,” Ambani announced. “We are accelerating India’s transformation into a Deep Tech nation,” he added.

“AI has become integral to everything we do,” Ambani says. “We are integrating AI into all our processes and offerings,” which he says helps deliver better services internally and to RIL customers. Ambani also talked about something called “JioBrain,” which is “a comprehensive suite of tools and platforms covering the entire AI lifecycle.” Ambani says this enables the company to accelerate AI adoption at Jio to better understand trends and deliver better services. Ambani says “AI everywhere, for everyone” is Jio’s new motto.

Ambani says, “AI should not be a luxury… it should not be restricted to only premium devices.” Calling it “connected intelligence”, Ambani says AI should be available to everyone with low latency.

Jio AI-Cowed Welcome Offer

Ambani also announced the Jio AI-Cloud Welcome Offer.

“Jio users will get up to 100 GB of free cloud storage, allowing them to securely store and access all their photos, videos, documents, all other digital content and data,” the RIL chairman announced. “We will also have the most affordable pricing in the market for those who need even more storage. We plan to launch the Jio AI-Cloud Welcome Offer from Diwali this year, bringing a powerful and affordable solution where cloud data storage and data-driven AI services will be available to everyone, everywhere.”

Jio Home Services

Reliance has also announced its foray into home entertainment with Jio tvOS and JioHome app.

Jio TvOS is a new operating system designed for the Jio set-top box, delivering a personalized and immersive home entertainment experience. TvOS supports Ultra HD 4K video, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos for improved quality. The updated “Hello Jio” voice assistant now integrates advanced AI, simplifying content discovery and device control. Additionally, the Jio App Store offers diverse apps for lifestyle, fitness, and education, while Jio’s IoT solutions enable smart, connected homes managed through the JioHome app.

Jio PhoneCallAI

Jio is also developing Jio Phonecall AI, a service that simplifies the use of AI in phone calls. It can record and store calls in the Jio Cloud, transcribe conversations into text, summarize, and even translate them into other languages. The service operates through a dedicated phone number, allowing users to easily manage recordings and transcriptions during calls with simple commands. This inclusive technology also supports hearing impaired users by converting speech into text, and all data is stored securely in the Jio Cloud for easy access.

Jio now has 30 million users

Mukesh Ambani also addressed Jio’s growth in India at the RIL AGM 2024. Ambani says, “Jio has turned India into the largest data market. It carries 8 percent of global mobile traffic.” He added, “Jio’s current data price is one-fourth of the global average.” The RIL chairman also announced that Jio now has 490 million users. He also shared an interesting statistic that each Jio customer uses an average of 30 GB of data a month, which is a 33 percent year-on-year increase in Jio’s data traffic. Jio now has over 30 million users of digital broadband and digital television services. “We are one of the largest domestic service providers globally,” says Ambani.

Ambani claims, “Last year, we implemented True 5G technology across India. Jio True 5G has now reached every corner of India.” He further said, “Jio True 5G has also achieved the record of fastest 5G adoption in the world. Today, we have more than 130 million Jio True 5G users.”

The Reliance chairman also announced that the company added 1.7 lakh jobs last year, taking its total employee strength to 6.5 lakh.
