Jio brings back Rs 999 prepaid plan, this time with better benefits
Reliance Jio has reintroduced its Rs 999 prepaid plan with enhanced benefits including longer validity and 5G access.
Telecom operators including Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have recently increased the prices of their mobile prepaid and postpaid plans to increase the average revenue per user. Jio has increased the price of its plans by about 10 to 27 percent, including plans with long term validity. However, amid all the changes in the plan, Jio has now reintroduced its Rs 999 plan, which was earlier priced at Rs 1,199 after the tariff hike on July 3, 2024.
The new Rs 999 plan offers additional benefits along with extended validity compared to the one offered before the tariff hike. Earlier, it offered 84 days of validity. Now, the newly introduced Rs 999 plan offers 98 days of validity, giving users an additional 14 days. But to offer longer validity, Jio has cut down the daily data allowance. The plan now offers 2GB of data per day, totalling 196GB over the entire validity period, as against 3GB data per day earlier which was 252GB.
Additionally, since this plan offers 2GB daily data limit, it will also give users access to 5G speeds in areas with Jio’s True 5G service. Users with 5G-compatible devices can enjoy unlimited 5G data access with this plan. Along with its data benefits, the Rs 999 plan offers 100 SMS per day and unlimited voice calling, ensuring comprehensive connectivity for users. These features make this plan a good option for customers looking for both data and voice services.
Meanwhile, Airtel also offers a competitive Rs 979 plan that includes 2GB data per day, 100 SMS per day, and unlimited voice calls, all valid for 84 days. This plan also includes unlimited 5G data and also comes with the added benefit of free Amazon Prime membership for 56 days, which adds extra value for customers.
Talking about 5G data plans, both Airtel and Jio continue to offer unlimited 5G data to users who recharge with a plan that offers at least 2GB of 4G data per day. Jio’s minimum monthly plan costs Rs 349, while Airtel’s plan costs Rs 379. To enhance 5G access, both companies offer 5G booster plans for users on plans with 1 to 1.5GB of 4G data per day. Priced at Rs 51, Rs 101, and Rs 151, these boosters offer additional 4G data and allow users to experience 5G, although they must be paired with an existing plan.
